In the unforgiving wild west, ruthless cattle baron Brandt Ruger revels in his wealth and power. His latest indulgence, a set of cutting-edge long-range rifles, becomes the catalyst for a vicious hunting trip with a cadre of wealthy comrades. Ruger's beautiful young wife, Melissa, is left behind, treated more like a possession than a partner, subjected to his tyrannical whims. However, life takes a sharp turn when the illiterate outlaw, Frank Calder, and his band of renegades mistakenly kidnap Melissa, mistaking her for the town's schoolteacher. Unaware of the hornet's nest they've kicked, Calder seeks only to learn to read from his captive.
