Plot

In the quaint town of Rachel, a timid typesetter named Luther Heggs, portrayed with comic brilliance by Don Knotts, dreams of seeing his byline in the local newspaper, the Rachel Courier Express. His break comes in the form of a haunting assignment. Twenty years after a chilling murder-suicide, Luther is tasked to spend a night in the dreaded Simmons mansion, a house shrouded in mystery and ghostly tales that has piqued the town's interest, especially when the lone heir, Nick Simmons, returns with plans to demolish the eerie edifice. Under the cloak of midnight, Luther steps into the creaky old mansion, his heart pounding louder with each tick of the clock. His fright-filled sojourn forms the basis of a sensational article which lands him on the front page. However, his claims of spectral sightings incite a libel suit from the disgruntled mansion owner, Nick Simmons, placing Luther's credibility under harsh scrutiny. In a twist of events, the trial judge orders an investigation which fails to produce any apparitions, leading the townsfolk to brand Luther a fraud. But all hope is not lost for our bumbling hero. With the aid of his loyal girlfriend and his steadfast friend Kelsey, he embarks on a quest to unearth the truth about the haunting and the real identity of the murderer from that infamous night two decades ago. This timeless comedy classic, The Ghost & Mr. Chicken, takes you on a roller coaster ride of laughter and suspense, where an underdog with a heart of gold uncovers a mystery that has been gathering dust under the cobwebs of the haunted Simmons mansion.
