In the rugged heart of Albania, we find a family steeped in tradition but touched by the promise of a modern future. At the helm are Rudina, the ambitious high-school scholar, and Nik, her charismatic brother, both of whom find their lives abruptly upended by an age-old dispute turned deadly. Their father, a humble bread delivery man, relies on a shortcut across the disputed land, once belonging to their own family, to make ends meet. Meanwhile, Rudina dreams of university, and Nik, popular and in the flush of first love, aspires to open a business. However, their dreams are shattered when a quarrel over the contentious land spirals out of control, resulting in the death of their resentful neighbor at the hands of their father and uncle. When their father evades the law, leaving their uncle to face the consequences, an ancient law of blood feud is invoked against the family. This archaic decree demands that all male family members retreat into house arrest, a sentence that could last for years. Consequently, Rudina is forced to abandon her academic aspirations to take over her father's bread delivery business, while Nik is left a prisoner in his own home, his dreams of entrepreneurship and romantic love withering away. As the family grapples with this unexpected upheaval, the atmosphere fills with a palpable tension. A sense of despair hangs heavy as there seems to be no foreseeable resolution to their predicament. This gripping narrative explores the clash between tradition and modernity, duty and ambition, as Rudina and Nik navigate their way through a world where age-old customs shape their present and threaten their future.
