Plot

In the heart-wrenching era of the Great Depression, we meet Little Tree, a tender-hearted Cherokee boy of eight. His world is turned upside down when he faces the loss of his parents, leading him to find solace and survival in the rugged folds of the countryside, under the care of his Cherokee grandparents. His grandparents, wise in the ways of their people, guide Little Tree in the embrace of their ancestral customs and the ethereal whispers of the Cherokee way of life. The story mingles with the haunting shadows of history, revealing the unsettling tale of how Caucasian settlers, once allies, betrayed them, using military force to claim their lands and impose brutal relocations, scarring their lives with untold sufferings. This tranquil existence, however, is threatened when the state's social services discover Little Tree's unconventional upbringing. Accusing his grandfather of illicit liquor trade and pointing out Little Tree's absence from school, they force the young boy into the grey confines of a state-run institution. Here, Little Tree's life takes a harsh detour, navigating the oppressive corridors of the school, far removed from the warmth and wisdom of his grandparents and the wind-swept freedom of his homeland. 'The Education of Little Tree' is a poignant exploration of culture, survival, and the relentless spirit of a young boy learning to walk in two contrasting worlds, while holding onto the roots of his heritage.
