Plot

In the quaint and quiet town of St. Malo, Brittany, a chilling crime disrupts the tranquility. Eloise, a 10-year-old girl, is found brutally raped and murdered in the surrounding woods, her lifeless form a stark contrast to the idyllic landscape. The last person to see her alive was her art teacher, René Sterne, a former renowned painter now living a secluded life with his wife Vivianne, a local nurse, in their isolated seaside home. René's life is one of tranquility and simplicity, marred by his physical disability, but enriched by his passionate love for teaching art. When Frédérique Lesage, the new Parisian chief of police with a keen eye for detail and an unyielding determination, is assigned to the case, René quickly becomes her primary suspect. As the investigation unfolds, René finds himself sinking deeper into a whirlpool of suspicion and accusation. His reputation crumbles, his students abandon him, and the once friendly faces at the Bar des Amis now look at him with wary eyes. In the midst of this turmoil, Vivianne stands as René's lone beacon of support, her love unwavering. However, the arrival of the pompous and charming writer, Germain-Roland Desmot, threatens to disrupt their fragile equilibrium. A celebrated media star in Paris, Desmot has returned to his hometown for a vacation and soon finds himself drawn into the heart of the scandal. His interest in Vivianne, coupled with his insidious influence in the town, adds another layer of complexity to the already tangled web of suspicion and betrayal. With René's life in tatters and a killer still at large, the question remains: Will Frédérique Lesage uncover the truth behind the innocence or guilt of the art teacher? The Color of Lies paints a vivid portrait of a small town caught in the throes of a horrifying crime, where loyalties are tested and secrets revealed, prompting viewers to question the true shades of human nature.
