Plot

On an endless journey across the sprawling landscapes of Australia, brothers George and Arthur Waldo, bound by their shared solitude, haul their mobile home in search of work. Arthur, forever haunted by an accident a year prior that claimed the life of an elderly pedestrian, relinquishes all driving duties to George. Their fragile bond shatters one fateful night when George loses his life in a car crash on a serpentine road just outside a peculiar little town named Paris, leaving Arthur consumed by guilt and grappling with an emotional turmoil intensified by a mysterious blinding light he witnessed just before the accident. Surviving the crash with minor injuries, Arthur is persuaded by Len Kelly, the charismatic yet enigmatic mayor of Paris, to become part of the close-knit community. Embarking on a new life, Arthur finds himself navigating through a maze of secrets as he works first as an orderly in the town's eerily named Bellevue Psych Ward and then as the town's parking superintendent under the watchful eye of Mayor Kelly. However, Paris is not the idyllic rural retreat it appears to be. The town thrives on a morbid economy, causing car accidents and scavenging the wreckage for valuables. As Arthur begins to decipher the town's dark underbelly, tensions rise between the town's older residents, who profit from the twisted scheme, and the restless younger generation, who yearn for change. Simultaneously, the townsfolk must maintain their façade of normalcy in the face of outsiders, such as vigilant insurance investigators, while ensuring that no one, including Arthur, ever leaves Paris. As the town's secrets unravel, Arthur finds himself in the eye of a brewing storm, testing his resilience, morality, and ultimately, his will to survive.
