Plot

At the close of World War II, American Major Ferris finds himself deep within the jungles of Malaysia, fighting alongside native guerrilla groups. Having been attached to the Australian 8th Army, he remains behind as the Japanese surrender, coordinating the tactical efforts of the guerrillas. As the war ends, a prophetic British officer muses on the shifting allegiances of the Malaysian people, hinting at a simmering unrest that could threaten the British colony's stability. As the dust of war settles, Ferris invites his closest comrade, Malaysian Colonel Ng, to join him in a business venture exploiting the rich rubber and tin resources of the land. The offer is declined; Ng has political ambitions that lead him to Moscow. Their paths diverge, only to intertwine again nearly a decade later in a drastically different Malaysia. With the British's colonial grip loosening, guerrilla groups seize the opportunity to strike against the fading foreign power. Acts of rebellion surge, from brutal attacks on military convoys to kidnapping European colonists and sabotaging colonial properties. As the British government negotiates a peaceful exit strategy, promising independence to Malaysia, the guerrilla leaders remain skeptical, escalating their violent campaigns. In the midst of this chaos, Ferris remains insulated, his ventures untouched by the rebels. However, when news breaks that the former guerrilla leader, Ng, has returned from Moscow to unify the disparate rebel factions, Ferris is thrust back into the fray. The British authorities, remembering his wartime collaboration with Ng, approach him with a plea for assistance. They urge Ferris to penetrate the jungle once more, hoping he can persuade Ng to halt the violence and allow a peaceful British departure. Thus, Ferris embarks on a dangerous journey, seeking his old friend in the heart of the jungle. He must navigate the shifting allegiances and simmering tensions of a nation on the brink of independence, attempting to broker peace while caught between his loyalty to his old comrade and his duty to the British authorities.
