Plot

In the heart of an opulent apartment hotel, Jimmy Whalen operates the night elevator, his affability making him a favorite amongst tenants, but always within the bounds of his job security that comes with a modest $12 per week paycheck. One stormy night changes everything when a jobless young woman, Nancy Lee, takes refuge from the rain, sneaking into the upscale complex. With no home to return to and dreams of a better life in the big city, Nancy becomes the unexpected guest of the ever-accommodating Jimmy. Despite jeopardizing his job when his stern boss, Johnson, discovers the unauthorized resident, Jimmy's persuasive charm lands Nancy a job as a maid in the hotel, a twist of fate that keeps her close. As the elevator rises and falls, so too does the affection between Jimmy and Nancy, culminating in a love that Jimmy hopes will lead to marriage. But Nancy hides a secret as deep as the building's foundations, threatening to shatter their blossoming relationship. Their story unfolds under the watchful eyes of the building's contrasting tenants - the irascible Ned Murdock, who has zero tolerance for mischief, and the carefree Thomas J. Jesse, who despite his mounting rent debts, maintains an unwavering optimism. The pair, along with a couple of priceless Ming vases in one of the suites, play unexpected roles in the unfolding drama between Jimmy and Nancy. In the upscale world of That Man's Here Again, love, secrets, and social class collide, creating a captivating tapestry of human emotion and resilience.
