Plot

In the shadowy underbelly of Seoul, two young men, Jun (Paul Lee) and Hyeon (Yeom Hyunjoon), grapple with their own versions of captivity. Jun, an illegal North Korean immigrant, is chained to a life of dreary dead-end jobs, under the thumb of a ruthless boss at a gas station. His existence is a constant dance with danger, his aspiration shrouded in the constant fear of arrest and deportation. Meanwhile, Hyeon lives trapped in the golden cage of luxury, maintained by a wealthy, married businessman in a plush apartment near the government headquarters in Yeouido. His freedom is compromised, existing solely to cater to his benefactor's whims. An unexpected twist of fate leads these two lost souls to one another via an Internet site. Their lives, as polar opposite as they are, collide with catastrophic outcomes. The sudden merging of their contrasting worlds provides the canvas for a profound exploration of the meaning and consequences of 'statelessness'. As they navigate through their trials, Stateless Things offers a stark reflection on the struggle for identity and the relentless quest for freedom.
