Shipwrecked (1990)

In the turbulent era of the 1850s, young Haakon Haakonsen, a resolute Norwegian lad, reluctantly sets sail as a cabin boy to support his financially burdened family. His journey is softened by the guidance of Jens, his father's trusted comrade, who mentors him through the rough and tumble of ship life. Yet, the tranquil waves of camaraderie soon churn into a tempestuous sea of troubles when Haakon discovers a stowaway, the spirited Mary, who is around his age, and chooses to shield her presence. Unbeknownst to them, a venomous serpent slithers aboard their ship in the guise of Royal Navy lieutenant John Merrick. As the tension tightens like a coiled rope, the ship is beset by a storm, throwing everyone into a chaotic struggle for survival. Haakon awakens on the sun-dappled shores of a jungle island, a paradise marred by the recent carnage of pirates. Among the ruins, he uncovers an enormous treasure and damning evidence linking the duplicitous Merrick to the notorious pirates. Now a lone castaway, Haakon embraces his new home, navigating its secrets and beauty while engineering his escape. His solitude is punctuated by the arrival of Jens and Mary, and together they carve out a semblance of island life, their bonds fortified by shared adversity. But the pirate's specter looms large as Merrick resurfaces, his greedy eyes set on the treasure. A thrilling cat-and-mouse chase ensues, peppered with daring rescues and battles more adventurous than menacing. Armed with wit and bravery, Haakon outsmarts his enemies, turning the tides of his fate. In a poignant climax, he returns to Norway, his pockets filled with wealth and his heart with love for Mary. His triumphant homecoming brings solace to his family and a taste of humble pie to those who had once sneered at their poverty. The film closes with Haakon introducing Mary, his partner in adventure, to his parents with a promising, "She will be staying with us for a while."
