In the heart of suburban Baltimore thrives the Sutphin family - a picture-perfect portrait of middle-class Americana. The family comprises the affable dentist father Eugene, the quintessential housewife Beverly, and their late-teen children: the boy-crazed flea market lover Misty, and Chip, the horror movie enthusiast. Beverly, the matriarch, is an incarnation of late 1950s television mothers, presenting an image of flawless perfection, and won't tolerate any disruptions to her idealistic family tableau. However, the tranquility of this suburban utopia starts to shudder when their neighbor, Dottie Hinkle, becomes the victim of obscene phone calls. The shockwaves intensify as the neighborhood is plagued with a series of eerie murders. As the body count rises, the finger of suspicion points surreptitiously towards the endearing Beverly. The whispers grow louder, suggesting that Beverly isn't just the perpetrator behind the harassing calls, but also the architect of the murders that have befallen those who dared offend her family. Beverly, however, meets these grim accusations with an unnerving laughter, dismissing them as baseless. Notwithstanding the mounting evidence against her, even her family members come to the unsettling conclusion of her guilt. Yet, the Sutphins, instead of recoiling in horror, exploit their sudden notoriety to their advantage, preserving their picture-perfect world. Amidst the escalating chaos, Beverly remains unshaken, adamantly believing she can absolve herself from the heinous charges.
