Plot

Nestled a mere three minutes from the English seaside in Bournemouth stands the Beauregard Hotel, a quiet refuge in the off-season, home only to its long-term residents. Managed by the steadfast Pat Cooper, the hotel is a sanctuary for an assortment of characters, each harboring their own secrets and yearnings. Among them is the timid Sibyl, a spinster dominated by her high-handed and haughty mother, Mrs. Maud Railton-Bell. Sibyl’s hidden affection for the seemingly reformed Major David Angus Pollock adds a touch of sweetness to her otherwise stifled existence. In this delicate ecosystem, the arrival of the alluring Ann Shankland stirs the tranquil waters. She is the ex-wife of the hotel’s resident American writer, John Malcolm, whose demons are drowned in alcohol and who is secretly engaged to Pat. Ann's presence threatens to unearth their shared, tumultuous past—a past that includes a murder attempt. Meanwhile, the hotel's genteel atmosphere is further disrupted when a scandalous newspaper article about Major Pollock, a beloved figure especially to the fragile Sibyl, is discovered by the imperious Mrs. Railton-Bell. The revelation sends shockwaves through the Beauregard, testing the strength of relationships and the resilience of its inhabitants. From the billiards-playing Miss Meacham and Mr. Fowler to the young couple Charles and Jean grappling with the future of their relationship, "Separate Tables" weaves a captivating tale of love, deception, and redemption within the walls of the Beauregard Hotel. As secrets surface and lives intertwine, the hotel's residents must confront their pasts and reconsider their futures in this poignant exploration of human connection and forgiveness.
