In the chilling grip of World War II, a ragtag Brazilian Expeditionary Force, unprepared and linguistically isolated, finds itself stationed at an outpost in the shadow of Italy's formidable Monte Castello. This small unit, specialising in the perilous task of minesweeping and demining, becomes paralyzed by fear, resulting in a panic-induced scatter across the mountainous 'no man's land'. As the frosty winds whisper tales of dread, soldiers Guimarães, Tenente, Piauí e Laurindo regroup at the base of Monte Castello. They are torn between a rock and hard place, trapped in the icy grip of fear: return to their base and face the damning accusation of desertion or tread back to their post and court a chilling death. Their path crosses with Rui, a journalist who reveals the critical Road 47, a strategic lifeline for the American force, is laced with lethal mines. In this revelation, they find a purpose that could redeem them from their retreat - the daring mission of demining the most feared roadway in Italy. Their journey twists even further when they encounter two other deserters: an Italian soldier haunted by remorse and seeking redemption with the Partigianos, and a war-weary German officer who has lost his appetite for conflict.
