City of Men (2007)

Nestled in the heart of Morro da Sinuca, a war-torn slum of Rio, two young men, Acerola and Laranjinha, stand on the precipice of adulthood. As they approach their eighteenth birthdays, they grapple with the ghosts of their fathers' pasts and the harsh realities of their present. Acerola, an orphan, helps his best friend Laranjinha in a quest to find his unknown father, a journey that leads them to the stark walls of a prison. They discover Laranjinha's father is a convict, imprisoned for a fatal robbery, waiting on the cusp of parole. As the city becomes a battlefield for rival drug gangs, Acerola and Laranjinha are thrust into a world of chaos and violence.
