Plot

In the heart of the English countryside, nestled in the rolling fields of Devon, are two young brothers; Tommo and Charlie. Private Peaceful paints a poignant picture of their humble rural existence from 1909 to 1916, a life steeped in love, loyalty, and the hardship of their Devonshire family's feudal existence. Their world, an idyllic country tapestry, is shattered with the outbreak of the First World War, compelling both brothers to join up, one barely old enough to enlist. Their departure leaves a void in the life of the captivating Molly, the shared object of their affection, adding a layer of romantic complexity to their fraternal bond. Thrust into the harrowing trenches and blood-soaked battlefields of Flanders, they endure the horrors of gas attacks, German troops, shelling, and the gut-wrenching loss of their comrades. Amid the chaos and carnage of the war, they grapple with the weight of courage, the stigma of cowardice, and the brutal reality of military justice, a ruthless machine from which they cannot escape. Private Peaceful is a tale of innocence lost and brotherhood tested, a rich tapestry woven with the threads of love, war, and the relentless grip of fate. The narrative powerfully captures the human cost of war and the price paid by those swept up in its relentless march.
