Plot
In the bleak and dreary town of Vaslui, Cristi, a youthful police officer, is ensnared in a moral quandary. Steadfast and reserved, Cristi finds solace in his recent marriage to Anca, a compassionate teacher. His latest assignment, however, casts a shadow over his tranquility. Tasked with tracking a young pot-smoker suspected of supplying his peers, Cristi grapples with the ethical implications. The target is no hardened criminal, and an arrest could send his life into a tailspin. Cristi, convinced that Romania's stance on marijuana will soon soften, is reluctant to follow through with a hasty arrest.
His superior, unyielding, insists on the absolute authority of the law, urging Cristi to conclude the case swiftly. Undeterred, Cristi opts to trace the informant, a lad with a builder for a father. As he observes, smokes, and scribbles reports, Cristi yearns to confer with the prosecutor. His tale unravels as a poignant question - can a police officer afford to have a conscience? The narrative explores the intricacies of the "procedural" or "state" - words that may not bear their usual meaning in this gripping tale.
