Plot

Patsy & Loretta (2019) is a film that brings to life the semi-fictional tale of two country music luminaries, Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, whose paths crossed in the early 1960s. Emerging from similar backgrounds of rural poverty, both women were simple country girls with grand dreams of stardom. Patsy, despite having a significantly more advanced career than Loretta, grappled with a far-from-perfect marriage just like her counterpart. Her independent spirit saw her taking the reins of her career, often against the wishes of her second husband, Charlie Dick. Loretta, on the other hand, found her life and budding career firmly under the thumb of her husband, Oliver Lynn, aka Doolittle or Mooney. Striving to retain her unadorned image, he strongly opposed any makeover that seemed too provocative, such as makeup. When destiny brought these two women together in 1961, a friendship was forged that could have easily swerved towards rivalry. Instead, Patsy took on the role of a mentor, guiding Loretta not only in her career but also advising her on asserting herself against Mooney's control. Their bond, however, was not without its bumps, primarily due to Loretta's insinuations that Patsy was not devoting enough time to her family and children. Patsy & Loretta's friendship, which blossomed amidst the glitter and grit of the music industry, was tragically cut short by Patsy's untimely demise in a plane crash just two years after their first meeting. This film is a tribute to their enduring bond and the music they left behind.
