Plot

In the bleak backdrop of the Depression era, the penniless and homeless duo, Stanley and Oliver, find themselves at the mercy of an elderly woman's kindness. As they break bread in her humble kitchen, a heart-wrenching conversation unfolds between the woman and a sinister landlord. Unbeknownst to the hapless pair, they've stumbled upon a rehearsal for the local Community Players theater group, mistaking the theatrical exchange for a distressing reality. Believing the elderly woman to be on the brink of eviction, Stanley and Oliver vow to come to her rescue. They decide to auction off their rickety car, their only possession of value, in a desperate attempt to save her from the unrelenting grasp of her supposed landlord. Amidst the chaotic auction, a drunken bidder mistakenly slips his hefty wallet into Stanley's pocket, leading to an unexpected twist in their tale. When Oliver discovers the wallet, he hastily accuses Stanley of stealing the old woman's money, ensnaring them in a web of confusion and accusation. As the shocking truth is unveiled, the duo realizes the landlord's threats were nothing more than theatrical fiction, leading to an amusing and ironic climax. As the curtains fall, Stanley exacts a comical, yet poignant retribution, adding a final touch of humor to their misadventures. "One Good Turn" is a delightful blend of comedy and drama, weaving a tapestry of misunderstandings, misguided good intentions, and the timeless humor of Stan and Ollie's enduring friendship.
