Nurse Betty (2000)

In the heartland of Kansas City, Betty (Renée Zellweger), a humble waitress harboring dreams of nursing, plunges into a surreal fantasy after the brutal murder of her deceitful car salesman husband. Caught in the grip of delusion, she's convinced she's the lost love of her beloved soap opera heartthrob, a dashing cardiologist. Believing the fictional world of her soap opera to be real, she embarks on a journey to Los Angeles, California, to reunite with her imagined fiancé in the hospital where he supposedly works. Unbeknownst to her, a deadly danger lurks in her shadow. Her husband's killers, in pursuit of the drugs he stole, discover they're tucked away in the trunk of the very car she's driven off in. On their heels is Charlie (Morgan Freeman), an aging hitman yearning for retirement after this final assignment. As he trails Betty, he too descends into a delusion about the innocent woman he's been tasked to track. In the intertwining narratives of reality and fantasy, Nurse Betty weaves a tale of dreams, delusions, and dangerous pursuits.
