Plot

Every year, the serene town of Dubrovnik, Croatia, surrenders to the whimsical charm of the world-renowned violinist with an eccentric nose fetish, Julian Rachlin. In Noseland, this uniquely intriguing feature-length documentary, Rachlin's annual orchestration of a two-week classical music festival is unveiled, drawing together a constellation of the most illustrious musicians, composers, and actors from across the globe. However, this fairytale festival spirals into an unpredictable spectacle when Rachlin's oldest friend, the multi-talented violinist, composer, and aspiring filmmaker Aleksey Igudesman, proposes to capture an "inside look" at this enchanting event. As the oblivious Rachlin finds himself in the producer's chair, he watches, bewildered, as the documentary crumbles before his eyes, thanks to Igudesman's knack for offending every artist he interviews. In this audacious blend of fiction, comedy, and documentary - a mockumentary, if you will - classical musicians are presented in a light you've never seen before: private, unabashedly crazy, and undeniably authentic. With John Malkovich ranting about Rachlin's alleged incompetence and the classical music world shown in a hilariously unpolished light, the once poised Rachlin begins to question his expectations. As the narrative weaves between spectacular performances by some of today's finest musicians, and Igudesman's comedic filmmaking blunders, Noseland poses questions that remain curiously unanswered, such as "What does a conductor actually do?" and "Why does anyone attend a music festival in the first place?" By the end, Igudesman has drawn tears from Sir Roger Moore and instilled in Julian Rachlin a fear for his future, not only as a classical soloist... Noseland is a humorous and heartfelt tribute to the world of classical music and its star performers, a film that merges genres, subverts expectations, and invites you to experience the beautiful chaos of a music festival through a lens of unabashed authenticity and laughter.
