In the dusty heartland of the Wild West, a sinister shadow of treachery falls upon the town when Hoppy's brother, Buddy, is brutally slain by a crooked deputy sheriff. The event is hushed up, dismissed as an accident by a coroner's jury under the sway of the influential Henry Stoneham. Enraged, Hoppy swears vengeance, descending into the town masked as a seasoned outlaw, with his loyal allies, Lucky and Windy, surreptitiously following suit, their identities concealed. The story takes a tantalizing turn when Hoppy, in his guise, entices the town's dance hall hostess, Faro Annie, with plans of illicit operations. His audacity invites the ire of the local gang's apparent leader, Ace Crowder, who warns Hoppy of the unseen puppeteer behind their outlaw organization, the enigmatic Lone Wolf. Hoppy, preferring to deal with the head rather than the tail, insists on a meeting with this concealed figure. Intrigued by Hoppy's audacity, the Lone Wolf reaches out. When they meet, although the Lone Wolf is disguised, Hoppy's keen eyes spot a distinctive ring on his finger. This clue leads him to uncover the true identity of the criminal mastermind - none other than Stoneham, the seemingly upright railroad representative. However, the plot thickens when Hoppy's revenge mission takes a dire turn. After a daring train robbery and the murder of Plunkett, the corrupt deputy, Hoppy is captured before he can unmask the truth about Stoneham. Wounded and imprisoned, Hoppy's fate hangs in the balance, casting a cloud of uncertainty over the outcome. Will he manage to expose the truth, or will the Lone Wolf's reign of terror continue to plague the town? The unraveling of these mysteries forms the thrilling crux of "North of the Rio Grande."
