In a gritty, bustling city hospital, high school dropout Lora Hart is unexpectedly hoisted from obscurity after crossing paths with the distinguished Dr. Arthur Bell, who helps her secure entry into a nursing school. Amidst the chaos and clamor of the medical world, she cultivates an unlikely friendship with a bootlegger nursing a bullet wound and bonds with her quick-witted co-worker, Bea Maloney.
