Necrosis (2009)

In the icy grip of Sierra, Nevada, a group of six friends, led by Michael "Mike" Scottfield, embark on a weekend adventure to his secluded mountain-top cottage, hoping for a thrilling retreat. Among the group are Mike's girlfriend Karen, the jovial Matt, quirky Jerry, and the spirited duo of Samantha and Megan. Their journey takes an eerie detour as they encounter Seymour, a peculiar local in a bar, who warns them of the mountain's sinister past and the lurking danger at its summit. Undeterred, they continue their journey, carrying with them the chilling tale of the Donner massacre of 1846, where a group of California-bound travelers were trapped on the mountain. Driven to the brink of insanity by starvation, they resorted to cannibalism, their memory forever haunting the snowy peaks. Jerry, while on a snowmobile, is visited by a spectral child, echoing Seymour's warning. However, his friends dismiss it as a hallucination, a side effect of his antipsychotic medication, Seraquin. Their playful weekend turns into a nightmare as a brutal snowstorm descends, isolating them from the world. The mountain, once a symbol of their adventure, now a menacing trap. The discovery of the caretaker Lyle's lifeless body in the snow heightens the fear. Jerry's hallucinations intensify, revealing shadowy figures looming around their refuge. As the harsh reality of their situation sets in, paranoia fuels the group's fear, making them question whether they are truly not alone, or if it's 'cabin fever' playing mind games. The six friends find themselves in a deadly dance with the spectral remnants of the Donner Party, the line between reality and nightmare fading in the blinding snowstorm. As the walls of their cabin close in, their bonds of friendship are tested, and the fight for survival begins. Are these phantoms real, or are they just figments of their fraying sanity? A chilling reminder of the mountain's dark past, or a manifestation of their own inner demons? The answers lie buried in the snow, waiting to be uncovered.
