Plot

In the sun-drenched landscapes of Athens, we meet Georgia, an American academic with a burning passion for Greek history and culture, who has traded in her teaching post for a less-than-glamorous job as a tour guide. However, her scholarly approach to sharing her knowledge is met with yawns, as the tourists, predominantly American, are more interested in shopping than soaking up historical facts. Guiding a motley crew that includes a goofy couple, a frat boy, a sulking teen, a bickering pair, adventurous divorcées, and a wisecracking individual, Georgia's job grows increasingly unbearable. The lack of air conditioning, coupled with a quiet, bearded driver, does little to lift the spirits of this eclectic tour group. Georgia is on the verge of quitting, her patience worn thin by the unrelenting demands of her boss who seems eager to see her leave. However, amid the chaotic four-day tour, an unexpected friendship blossoms. This alliance, combined with the simple pleasures of daisies, an ice-cream cone, and a lesson in the history of syrup, offers Georgia an unexpected lifeline. A visit to the Oracle at Delphi further stirs her sense of adventure. Will these surprising elements lead Georgia to rediscover her 'kefi' - the Greek word for joy and passion - or will her life remain in ruins? In an unexpected twist on the typical tourist experience, 'My Life in Ruins' explores the power of friendship, the magic of history, and the pursuit of personal happiness.
