Plot

In the heart of France, we meet Monsieur Hire, a taciturn and reclusive tailor. This middle-aged man harbors a deep-rooted dislike for social interaction, preferring the company of his own thoughts. His balding head, his distant gaze, his peculiar ways - all paint a portrait of an outsider, a man out of place in his own neighborhood. When young Pierrette, a local girl, is found cruelly murdered, suspicions in the close-knit community naturally gravitate towards the enigmatic Monsieur Hire. His secretive nature and antisocial tendencies make him an easy target for the detective assigned to the case, who views Hire's eccentricity as a cloak for darker deeds. But unbeknownst to all, Hire harbors a secret of his own. From the solitude of his window, he obsessively observes his neighbor Alice, following her nocturnal rendezvous with her boyfriend Emile. This voyeuristic ritual takes an unexpected turn when Alice, aware of Hire's watchful eyes, pays him a visit. In the confines of his home, Hire confesses his silent love for Alice, unveiling his clandestine observations. He reveals a shocking truth - he witnessed Emile, the lover she knew, commit the heinous act against Pierrette. However, he had chosen silence over justice, fearing Alice would be implicated as an accomplice. As the tension mounts, Hire presents Alice with a tantalizing offer - to leave the haunting shadows of their pasts behind and escape to Lausanne, Switzerland. Will she choose the security of the familiar or the allure of the unknown? The intrigue of Monsieur Hire's life enthralls us, as we step into his world - a world of isolation, unrequited love, and unspoken secrets.
