In the heart of the Navajo Nation, a tradition 54 years strong selects a young woman to be crowned Miss Navajo, an embodiment of indigenous values and cultural ethos. This year, 21-year-old Crystal Frazier, a self-professed tomboy and a touch introverted, finds herself drawn to the pageant from her home on the Table Mesa reservation in New Mexico. Despite her shyness, a spark of competition ignites within her. Crystal steps out of her comfort zone, dedicating herself to honing her talent, mastering the Navajo language, and selecting the perfect outfit. As we journey with Crystal on her voyage to the crown, we meet past Miss Navajo winners, each sharing their unique tales of what the title has bestowed upon their lives. The narrative crescendos with the pageant, where Crystal encounters her fellow contestants, each holding their breath as they face the panel of judges. Far from the conventional contest narrative, "Miss Navajo" unveils the deeper stories of a community grappling to preserve a fading culture and the ties that bind across the passage of time.
