Plot
Willowdean's mom calls her "Dumplin'" much to her chagrin, but she's just as upset at how little attention her mom pays to her. Her mother's a former beauty queen, and the time she spends with pageants eclipses the time that she spends with Willow. As an act of protest, Willow enters herself in the Miss Teen Bluebonnet pageant. It's a courageous choice considering that Willow is plus-sized and doesn't meet the expectations of pageant beauty for her small Texas town. But what starts out as an act of protest quickly escalates into a rallying cry for something much bigger.
