Plot

In the shifting sands of art and passion, we follow Mikaël, a burgeoning artist mentored by the declining master, Zoret. An artist-student relationship soon evolves into an intimate affair, a twisted dance of love and dependency. However, the sparkle of opulence and carnal pleasures lures Mikaël into the arms of the enchanting Princess Zamikoff. Betraying Zoret, Mikaël trades his mentor's tokens of affection and even pilfers from his master to fund his decadent life with the princess. As Mikaël descends further into hedonism, Zoret finds himself abandoned, his health dwindling. Yet, in his isolation, he stumbles upon a spiritual awakening. A parallel narrative unfolds with Alice Adelsskjold, a woman unfaithful to her husband, entangled in an affair with the Duke of Monthieu. Their liaison, steeped in the heady allure of art and eroticism, also veers towards a religious awakening as the Duke's health deteriorates. 'Michael' is a stirring exploration of art, betrayal, and the path to spiritual redemption, set against the backdrop of a world teetering on the precipice of decadence and decay.
