Plot

In the heartwarming yet tumultuous tale of "Married Bachelor" (1941), we delve into the lives of the charmingly reckless Randolph Haven (Robert Young) and his devoted wife Norma (Ruth Hussey). Seven years into their marriage, the couple's love remains as vibrant as ever, yet the strains of their modest lifestyle have begun to wear on Norma. Seeking an escape from their bare-bones existence, she steps into the role of a saleslady, while Randolph stumbles into a risky partnership with a bookie. In a twist of fate, Randolph finds himself selling a manuscript titled "The Psychology of Marriage" as a means to settle a looming debt with an underworld figure. The situation spirals into a web of complications when it's revealed that not only is the insightful book not his own work but also requires him to masquerade as an unmarried man. Immersed in his newfound bachelor persona, Randolph becomes entangled in a life of penthouse living and deception, growing increasingly detached from his real-life marriage. As the plot thickens, the publisher of the book, unaware of Norma's marital ties to Randolph, finds himself falling for her. The tension escalates as Randolph's double life threatens to implode, putting his true marriage in jeopardy. "Married Bachelor" is a captivating exploration of marital love and individual ambition, entwined in a narrative brimming with wit, romance, and an undercurrent of danger.
