Loving (2016)

A dramatization of the true story of Richard and Mildred Loving, a white man and a black woman who dared defy the law and society by getting married in racially segregated late-1950s, early 1960s Virginia. Richard and Mildred traveled to Washington D.C. to marry because blacks and whites could not legally do so in Virginia. When they returned home, they were arrested and charged with a crime. The Lovings faced enormous local disapproval and racially-charged tensions for defying convention. They fought their criminal charges for violating Virginia’s anti-miscegenation law, taking it all the way to the Supreme Court.
