Plot

Rhys Darby portrays Doug, a man who believes his life to be picture-perfect until his long-term girlfriend, Susan (Faye Smythe), shatters his world by walking away. In the throes of heartbreak, Doug stumbles upon an injured creature on his rooftop. Though it's not quite a duck, he feels compelled to nurse it back to health, offering a new purpose in his desolate life. This unusual endeavor catapults Doug into a remarkable journey of self-discovery, pushing him to traverse beyond the confines of his familiar existence. It is during this insightful expedition that he crosses paths with the charming Holly (Sally Hawkins), a single bird expert working at the local zoo. As Doug dedicates himself to the well-being of the ambiguous avian, he unwittingly begins to piece himself back together. The overarching questions remain: Will this not-quite-a-duck ever take to the skies again? And in the midst of it all, will Doug rediscover what his perfect life truly looks like? Love Birds is a heartwarming journey that explores love, loss, and the unexpected friendships formed along the way.
