Plot

In the sterile confines of a hospital room, two unlikely companions, the fiery Martin Brest (Til Schweiger) and introspective Rudi Wurlitzer (Jan Josef Liefers), find their worlds colliding. Both young men, bound by the cruel fate of terminal cancer, seek solace in each other's company, drowning their despair in the fiery embrace of tequila. Seizing the dwindling sands of time, they hatch a daring plan to embark on one final adventure to the sea, a last breath of freedom before their impending demise. Their escape vehicle, a sleek 1960s Mercedes convertible, is stolen in a daring, drunken escapade. Unbeknownst to them, this seemingly ordinary car is the prized possession of a ruthless gang, its glove box concealing more than just the standard fare – a loaded pistol and one million Deutsche Marks. This chance theft sets off a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase, as the gangsters relentlessly hunt for their stolen car and the hidden fortune it carries. As Martin and Rudi speed towards the sea, their journey becomes a wild, chaotic race against time, pursued not only by the relentless mobsters seeking their stolen treasure but also by the law. Yet, amid all the chaos, they find unexpected joy, camaraderie, and life-affirming moments, making their road trip an unforgettable voyage. This narrative is not just about a daring escape or a thrilling chase – it's a poignant tale of friendship, freedom, and the human spirit, all set against the ticking clock of mortality. "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" invites you to buckle up for a rollercoaster ride filled with laughter, tears, and a dash of the unexpected.
