Kill Me Later (2001)

In the throes of a life steeped in desolation, Shawn Holloway finds herself teetering on the brink of self-destruction. Since her father's abandonment at eleven, her existence has spiraled into a cycle of disappointment and despair. Her only solace is a clandestine affair with a married colleague, Matthew Richmond, at the bank where she works. However, when the startling revelation of his wife's pregnancy comes to light, Shawn, feeling entirely betrayed and hopeless, decides to end her life. Venturing to the rooftop of her workplace, she finds herself on the precipice of oblivion, vodka fueling her courage. Yet, her desperate act is noticed by vigilant neighbors who alert the authorities, unknowingly setting in motion a chain of events that will forever alter the course of her existence. Simultaneously, the mundane tranquility of the bank below is shattered as the charismatic Charlie Anders and his accomplices execute a daring heist. The police, drawn by Shawn's plight, unwittingly interrupt the robbers, leading to a chaotic showdown. In the ensuing chaos, Charlie escapes to the roof, where he stumbles upon Shawn's suicide attempt. Instead of allowing her to plummet to her death, he offers her an unlikely pact: aid him in his escape, and he will grant her the death she so desperately seeks, coupled with a tantalizing $50,000. As their twisted agreement unfolds, the plan goes awry, creating pockets of time for introspection and unexpected bonding. Charlie, intrigued by Shawn's bleak outlook, attempts to penetrate her fortress of self-pity, while Shawn is forced to reevaluate her life choices. As dusk descends, their fleeting interlude concludes, leaving them each in their solitary worlds—Charlie facing a potential life behind bars, and Shawn gazing down at a river from a towering bridge, left to ponder the worth of her existence.
