Just Buried (2007)

In the obscure town of Elder's Bluff, two estranged brothers, Jackie and Oliver Whynacht, find themselves attending the funeral of their enigmatic father, Rollie. A man they hardly knew, Rollie leaves them an unexpected inheritance - a floundering funeral home. Oliver, the more introverted and fumbling of the two, is singled out as the sole beneficiary, much to the bewilderment of all, including Rollie's air-headed trophy wife, Luanne, and the town's passionate mortician, Roberta Knickle. As Oliver contemplates selling the inherited funeral home, he learns about its financial instability from the home's only staff, the devoted Roberta and handyman, Henry Sanipass. The establishment is on the brink of bankruptcy, having lost its clientele to a rival business in a neighboring town. Oliver's life takes a decidedly dark turn when a drunken drive with the enchanting Roberta results in a fatal collision with a hiker. A quick-thinking Roberta masks the fatality as an accident, inadvertently providing the funeral home with its first customer in a year. This macabre incident ignites a twisted strategy to save the failing business, propelling Oliver and Roberta into an unanticipated killing spree. Disguising homicides as accidents becomes their modus operandi, fueling the funeral home's resurgence even as the body count escalates. As they desperately try to evade the local law - Roberta's father, Chief of Police Knickle, and her boyfriend, Constable Richmond - Oliver finds himself entangled in a complicated love triangle with Roberta and his youthful, seductive stepmother, Luanne. As the funeral home thrives and his love life spirals, Oliver grows in confidence. However, he soon realizes he's dug himself into a pit of criminality too deep to escape from. The question now becomes, can Oliver and Roberta maintain their deadly secret, or will their grim enterprise crumble under the weight of their crimes? The answer lies beneath the surface of this quaint town, where death has become a twisted lifeline.
