Plot

In the buzzing heart of New York City, Aldolpho Rollo, a neurotic and visionary auteur, straddles two contrasting realities. In one, he yearns for the love of his beautiful and enigmatic next-door neighbor, Angelica – a single mother grappling with her life as an illegal immigrant. In the other, he is a struggling artist, laboring over his magnum opus screenplay, "Unconditional Surrender," from his cramped walk-up flat, while juggling an assortment of peculiar jobs to scrape by. Haunted by insecurity, and trapped in a meager existence, Aldolpho's dreams of cinematic success and winning Angelica's heart seem elusive. His world is a kaleidoscope of unfilmed scenes, unrequited love, and unending debt, which he spies on through his peephole. But a glimmer of hope emerges when his avant-garde masterpiece catches the eye of Joe, a charismatic yet enigmatic film producer with an unconventional approach to financing films. With promises of the much-needed cash to breathe life into Aldolpho's vision, Joe swoops down into his life like a guardian angel with a shady halo. As the benevolent high-roller pledges to produce Aldolpho's ambitious film, he also imparts wisdom about life and love. But will his guidance be enough for Aldolpho to navigate the labyrinth of the film industry, find a way out of his financial woes, and woo the elusive Angelica? "In the Soup" paints a vivid portrait of a dreamer's life teetering on the edge of despair and hope, where reality and fantasy intersect, and where love, art, and ambition collide.
