Plot

In the sun-scorched expanse of an Arizona desert town, a reign of terror prevails, orchestrated by the ruthless Packard Walsh and his motorized gang. This nefarious crew thrives on intimidating local drivers into high-stakes drag races, seizing their vehicles as triumphant spoils. The atmosphere thickens with dread when Walsh brutally murders the innocent teenager, Jamie Hankins, for daring to love a girl Walsh covetously desires. As the town drowns in despair and law enforcement, represented by Sheriff Loomis, seems powerless against Walsh's gang, a mysterious figure named Jake Kesey rolls into town. An enigmatic motor-biker armed with an extraordinary, seemingly invincible car, Jake's arrival sparks a flicker of hope amidst the desolation. Jake, with an air of cool detachment, befriends the bereaved girlfriend of Jamie, Keri Johnson, and takes the deceased's endearing brother Billy under his protective wing. Seemingly guided by a force beyond the ordinary, Jake initiates a methodical and otherworldly retaliation against Packard's gang, succeeding where the law has failed. Simultaneously, a spectral black car emerges from the shadows, challenging the gang members to deadly races and eliminating them one by one. This phantom car and its unseen driver remain elusive to both the gang and the police, heightening the unease and mystery that shrouds the town. As the body count rises, the town's inhabitants are led to delve into the dark history of the gang, hoping to uncover the enigmatic force orchestrating this deadly spree. In this thrilling blend of action and supernatural mystery, "The Wraith" (1986) explores a chilling tale of vengeance, justice, and the power of the unknown.
