Plot

In the austere landscape of Northern Norway in the 1860s, a young girl named Dina is catapulted into a cruel reality when she inadvertently causes her mother's demise. Consumed by sorrow, her father withdraws his affection, leaving Dina's upbringing to the humble hands of the household staff. As she matures, Dina blossoms into a woman of wild spirit and bewildering beauty, her life marked by a peculiar fascination with death and an unquenchable zest for existence. Her solitude is punctuated by the presence of the stable boy, Tomas, who becomes her sole confidante. Guided by the spectral whispers of her mother's spirit, Dina finds solace in the somber melodies of the cello, an instrument introduced to her by Lorch, a tutor employed by her father at the suggestion of family friend, Jacob. As Dina comes of age, she becomes the wife of Jacob, transitioning to life at Reinsnes, a bustling port overseen by Jacob, his stern mother Karen, and Jacob’s stepsons, Niels and Anders. Niels views Dina's unconventional ways and her newfound role in managing the port's finances with growing disdain, sowing seeds of discord within the family. Dina's eccentricities intensify, triggering a chain of events that results in a tragic accident for Jacob, and ultimately, a haunting reunion with Tomas. A rich tapestry of life, death, love and the struggle for acceptance, 'I Am Dina' is a poignant exploration of one woman's journey through the rugged terrains of her own heart.
