Plot

In the wake of World War II, the machinations of a northern cannery vying to purchase a large expanse of untamed Georgia farmland unfold. The vast majority of this verdant land is under the control of Julie Warren, manipulated by her unprincipled husband, Henry, into already optioning it for sale. The cannery's plans, however, hinge on acquiring two additional smaller plots. One is held by Henry's steadfast cousin, Rad McDowell, and the other by Reeve Scott, a young African American man with a deep familial bond to Julie, as his mother served as her childhood caretaker. Despite the cannery's enticing offers, neither Rad nor Reeve are willing to part with their heritage, forming an unexpected alliance to rejuvenate their land. This disruption fuels Henry's determination to force through the grand land deal, igniting a tense struggle against the backdrop of a changing post-war South.
