Plot

In the dark underbelly of the criminal world, the brilliant yet ethically compromised John Muller, a medical school dropout turned educated criminal, breathes life into a meticulously crafted scheme. Fresh out of the prison, he rallies his gang to rob a casino run by the formidable and cold-hearted mobster, Rocky Stansyck. However, the plan unravels, the heist goes awry, and two of Muller's cohorts are captured, their identities cruelly extracted before they meet their grim end. With their identities compromised, Muller's partner Marcy flees to Mexico while Muller himself vanishes into the city's shadows. But escape proves a fleeting illusion. Marcy's life is abruptly extinguished in Mexico, and paranoia sinks its claws into Muller. His life takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with Dr. Swangron, a dentist who unveils a startling revelation — Muller is the spitting image of his neighbor, the respected psychoanalyst Dr. Bartok, save for a distinct scar on Bartok's face. Seeing a glimmer of hope in the face of impending doom, Muller weaves a daring plan to impersonate the unsuspecting Dr. Bartok. He delves into the intricacies of Bartok's life, entangling himself with Bartok's secretary, Evelyn Hahn, and meticulously studying to become the man he eerily resembles. But as he steps out of the frying pan of his criminal past into the fire of his fabricated future, he quickly realizes that some identities are more impervious than others. Will he succeed in this dangerous game of deception, or will the weight of his dual existence be his ultimate downfall?
