The Maltese Falcon (1941)

Sam Spade's hired by a beautiful woman to protect her from a local thug — but as is often the case with beautiful women walking into the offices of private investigators, the truth is more complicated than she lets on. It turns out that she's involved in a scheme to smuggle a priceless artifact known as the Maltese Falcon, and now Sam is tied up in a power struggle between some of the city's most vicious men. And with the police suspecting Sam in a murder involved with the case, he can't expect on help from either side of the law.
