In the throes of profound grief, a once-successful businessman seeks isolation and solace on the desolate shores of a Great Lakes marina. His sanctuary, a dilapidated sailboat, becomes both his refuge and his project, a physical manifestation of his attempt to piece together the shattered fragments of his life. As winter descends and other boaters retreat, his solitude is punctuated by the concerned visit of a business associate. The associate's proposal to return to the corporate world is thwarted by the sight of his friend's anguish, leading to an agreement for the grieving man to take the time he needs. In the icy grip of loneliness, unlikely friendships bloom with a world-weary waitress from the marina and a fellow sailor carrying the burden of loss. Through the slow-burning drama set against the backdrop of the breathtakingly serene lake, viewers unravel the threads of the tragedy that drove the man to this isolated existence. As he labors to restore the sailboat, his grief gradually yields to healing and resilience. By the arrival of early spring, he finds himself ready to re-emerge into society, stronger and healed. The sailboat, now a gleaming testament to his journey, is sold. With a final, bittersweet farewell to this chapter of his life, he prepares to navigate the uncharted waters of his future.
