Plot

When the affluent and always roguish Henry Van Cleeve crosses the threshold of the afterlife, he's certain that heaven wouldn't dare open its gates for him. Thus, he instantly sets his course towards the opposite direction. However, the underworld's gatekeeper, the enigmatic His Excellency, isn't as easily convinced of Henry's ill-suitedness for paradise. Intrigued, His Excellency demands an account of Henry's life, a tale that weaves through a riotous youth spent in the lap of luxury, untouched by the worries that plague ordinary men. As a wealthy young bon vivant, Henry indulged in endless partying and a string of fleeting romances, painting the town red with his hedonistic zest. The narrative takes a sharp turn at the crossroads of Henry's 26th birthday, where he finds himself enamored by the enchanting Martha - his cousin Albert's betrothed. A whirlwind romance ensues, culminating in a clandestine elopement on the very night they meet. Their union blossoms into years of happiness, marred only by the shadow of Henry's relentless womanizing habits. Martha, weary and disillusioned, eventually leaves him, only to return upon realizing that the leopard named Henry would never change his spots. And so, standing at the precipice of eternity, Henry's fate hangs in the balance. His tales of a life lived in reckless abandon and enduring love now rest in the hands of His Excellency – the ultimate judge of whether Henry's afterlife will be spent amidst the fiery pits of hell or in the forgiving embrace of heaven.
