The Normal Heart (2014)

In the summer of 1981, the world was just on the brink of the horrific outbreak of AIDS. Ned Weeks is an out gay journalist working in New York City who finds himself on the front lines of an epidemic that disproportionately ravaged the gay community. As Ned first investigates the story, it's believed to be a rare form of cancer, but he quickly finds a scientist trying to identify and stop AIDS at its source. Ned's desperation to spread the news about AIDS throughout the community and draw national attention to the issue is stymied by inattention and prejudice.
