Plot

In the heartwarming tale of Happy Tears, sisters Jayne and Laura find themselves confronting a challenge unlike any other, their vivacious seventy-something father, Joe. Returning to their childhood sanctuary, they are thrust into a world of nostalgia, compelling them to scrutinize their less-than-ideal lives, all while dancing around fragments of their past. Laura, juggling her role as an environmentalist and mother, perceives their father's need for full-time attention. Jayne, however, caught in her pursuit of motherhood and her husband Jackson's relentless art-dealing ambitions, clings to the hope that their father's condition isn't as grave. Despite the signs of Joe's advancing senility, his spirit remains undeterred, his voice still resonates with song, his fingers strumming his old guitar. The addition of Shelly, his unabashed, vivacious companion, adds a twist to their father's intriguing life. Yet, as their father's lucidity wavers, the sisters find themselves entangled in their family's complicated dynamics, igniting simmering tensions. But their journey back home isn't devoid of charm and chaos, laden with magical moments, mischievous happenings, and even a quest for a hidden treasure in their backyard. Amid these trials, any tears that Jayne and Laura shed are destined to be ones of joy, painting a vivid picture of love, family, and the beauty of imperfection.
