Plot

In the heart of Guantánamo, a vivid tapestry of life unfurls when the affable Aunt Yoyita unexpectedly passes away during a visit to her niece, Gina. This death sets in motion an unconventional road trip, as Gina and Yoyita's childhood love, the nostalgic Cándido, are tasked with transporting the body to Havana. The journey is commandeered by Gina's domineering husband, Adolfo, a persnickety undertaker harboring political aspirations. Adolfo's rigid adherence to protocol stands in stark contrast to the fluidity of life on the road. Their journey coincides with the path of Mariano, a charming trucker with a penchant for romance and a woman waiting at every stop. An unexpected connection is revealed between him and Gina, who was once his teacher. He, a former student, once confessed his undying love via a heartfelt letter, only to abandon his education out of sheer embarrassment. His presence stirs long-forgotten emotions and offers Gina a crossroad of choices between the stability of Adolfo and the uncertain allure of Mariano. As the funeral procession and truckers traverse the same route, their conversations oscillate between the divine and the mundane, revealing a shared reality punctuated by unique perspectives. This journey, both literal and metaphorical, serves as a satirical exploration of life in Cuba, unearthing a myriad of similarities and differences among its characters. The spirit of Aunt Yoyita serves as an ever-present guide, her life stories shedding light on the complexities of love and the beauty of choice. The question that looms in the air is whether Gina will embrace the familiarity of her life with Adolfo or risk it all for the potential of a passionate love with Mariano. As the landscape of Cuba unfolds around them, each character is forced to confront their own notions of life, love, and the decisions that shape them.
