Plot

The year is 1970, and South Carolina is home to the three surviving Dollanganger children - Christopher, Cathy, and Carrie - who escaped the chilling confines of Foxworth Hall's attic a decade ago. Their affluent grandmother, Olivia Foxworth, and their self-serving mother Corrine held them captive, seeing them as devil's spawn due to their parents' incestuous relationship. The children's existence remains a secret to Bart Winslow, Corrine's younger lawyer husband, as the two women conspire in silence. Dr. Paul Sheffield, who provided sanctuary and prosperity to the beleaguered siblings, has recently passed away. Christopher has been shaped into a medical practitioner and Cathy, an aspiring ballerina, while Carrie attends private school. However, the haunting memories of the attic, their sexual awakening in each other's arms, and the toxic hostility from their mother and grandmother, including the secret poisoning of Carrie's twin brother Cory, have left deep scars. Christopher and Cathy, in their desperate attempt to outrun their past, seek solace in other romantic partners. Cathy finds herself entangled with Julian Marquet, a fellow ballet dancer, whose possessiveness mirrors the prison of her past. Christopher, on the other hand, is drawn to the innocent Sarah Reeves, the daughter of his mentor. Meanwhile, Carrie grapples with her burgeoning sexuality, the ghosts of their grandmother's past taunts, and the torment of bullying at school. A heart-wrenching incident involving Carrie unveils a mission she has silently carried, compelling Cathy to confront their tormentors. Meanwhile, Cathy and Christopher are forced to acknowledge their deeply repressed feelings for each other. Overwhelmed by an abusive relationship and a family tragedy, Cathy plots her revenge, intending to seduce Bart, her mother's husband. When Christopher comes to her aid, they resolve to start anew, together. "Petals on the Wind" is a visceral exploration of a family's struggle to bury their scandalous past, only to realize that some secrets cast long shadows. As they grapple with forbidden attractions, the specter of their past, and the pursuit of revenge, the Dollangangers find that their twisted saga is far from over.
