Good Neighbor Sam (1964)

Sam Bissel, a family man with a loving wife Min and two adorable daughters, leads a content suburban life, marred only by his unfulfilling role in the art department of the advertising firm, Burke & Hare. His professional life takes a thrilling detour when he lands the executive position for the Nurdlinger Dairy account, a wholesome brand seeking a man of family ideals to lead their campaign. Sam fits the bill perfectly, but life has a twist in store for him that is about to complicate everything. A curveball is thrown when Min's college friend and newly divorced neighbor, Janet Lagerlof, moves in next door. She is set to inherit a staggering $15 million from her grandfather's estate, however, the catch is that she must be blissfully married to claim it. Janet's family, Jack Bailey and Irene Krump, are eager to contest the will at any opportunity. In a hasty move, Janet introduces Sam as her husband, Howard, to evade their scrutiny. The lie spirals out of control when Sam, in an attempt to maintain the façade, introduces Janet as Mrs. Bissel to his boss and Simon Nurdlinger, the Dairy owner. As Sam and Min navigate this convoluted web of deception, Janet promises them $1 million of her inheritance for their cooperation. But the complications are only just beginning. A private investigator, hired by Janet's relatives, looms in the background, and Howard, Janet's ex-husband, reappears with intentions of reconciliation. Unbeknownst to Sam, the Nurdlinger Dairy campaign rolls out billboards featuring him and Janet as the ideal family, promoting their wholesome milk. The challenge now is to keep up appearances until the legal hearing, but Min may have reached her breaking point before they see a dime of the money. In this comedic tale of mistaken identities and tangled lies, Sam Bissel must juggle a double life, while preserving his wholesome image, both at home and in his newly minted career.
