As Good as It Gets (1997)

Reclusive author Melvin Udall spends his days making life unpleasant for everyone around him—particularly his neighbor, Simon, and Simon's little dog, Verdell. The only person who tolerates him is Carol, the hardworking waitress at the local diner. When Simon is brutally attacked in his apartment, Melvin is coerced into lending his neighbor a helping hand. With Carol's help—and against his own sour instincts—he soon begins to uncover his own better nature.
