Plot

In the pulsating heart of New York City, a mysterious streak of motiveless murders begins to unfold, chilling the metropolis to its core. A sniper, perched like a bird of prey on a water tower, strikes with unnerving precision, his cheap rifle belaying the deadly accuracy of his shots. His victims, innocent pedestrians, fall like dominos at street level, their lives extinguished without reason. First on the scene is NYPD Detective Peter Nicholas, whose unshakeable Catholic faith compels him to ascend the water tower, hoping to coax the sniper down. However, the sniper's enigmatic confession, "God told me to," precedes his baffling death leap. The sniper's chilling proclamation is not an isolated case, as Peter soon finds himself entangled in a web of eerily similar crimes. Normal individuals, devoid of any criminal or mental illness history, are driven to commit heinous acts of mass murder, all in God's name. The aftermath is invariably the same, with the perpetrators meeting mysterious, untimely deaths following their divine declarations. Peter's investigation leads him to a Christ-like figure, Bernard Phillips, a man who seemingly holds an unnatural sway over these murderers. With each revelation about Bernard's life, Peter grapples with unsettling parallels in his own existence. Raised in the Catholic foster care system with his birth parents' identities a mystery, Peter's devout faith is tested. His complicated personal life, including a strained marriage and a reluctant cohabitation with a teacher, Casey Forster, adds further layers to his internal turmoil. As Peter delves deeper into Bernard's enigmatic existence, he can't shake the feeling that his fate is inexplicably intertwined with this mysterious figure. As he edges closer to an alarming truth, he must confront his worst fears. God Told Me To is a compelling exploration of faith, destiny, and the dark underbelly of divine influence.
