Plot

In the heart of the British aristocracy, the financially beleaguered Lord Charles (Peter O'Toole) and Lady Diana Foxley (Dame Joan Plowright) are forced to rent out their grand historic mansion to a multinational corporation, all while maintaining a façade of lavish lifestyle. Their loyal staff - the butler Benson (Ian Downie) and cook Margaret (Helen Beavis) - are sent on a week's vacation, leaving the mansion's stewardship to the Foxleys themselves. In a desperate twist of events, the Foxleys don the roles of their own staff, unbeknownst to them that their tenants are far from corporate executives. In disguise, the Foxleys open their doors to Global Heresy, a wildly popular American rock band seeking solace and reinvention after the mysterious disappearance and supposed death of their frontman, Ben Gould (Alex Karzis). The band, grappling with the abrupt change, introduces their new bassist Natalie Bevan (Alicia Silverstone) into the mix, sparking a clash of cultures and identities within the mansion's ancient walls. As the band strives to create a fresh sound in the seclusion of the Foxley mansion, they also have to contend with their record company's hospitality man, James Chancellor (Martin Clunes), who bears a hidden agenda. The tensions rise further when two unexpected guests arrive, threatening to upend the delicate balance in the mansion, teetering on the precipice of revealing both the Foxley's financial woes and the band's internal struggles. The crescendo of chaos reaches its peak when the presumed deceased band leader, Ben Gould, suddenly reappears, revealing his disappearance was a carefully orchestrated publicity stunt. The ensuing drama rattles the mansion's inhabitants, forcing them to confront their realities and reassess the charades they've been playing. Amidst the chaos and comedy, a sense of shared respect and understanding gradually blossoms, forming an unlikely alliance between rock and royalty, challenging the status quo and redefining their paths. Global Heresy (2002) is an enchanting tale of deception, transformation, and the unexpected harmonies that can arise when worlds collide.
